Billboard Music Awards 2020

The 2020 Billboard Music Awards were aired on October 14, 2020. The show was set to be April 29 but was postponed due to COVID-19. Because of this year’s unique circumstances, there was no audience present at the show, and nominees walked down the red carpet with masks. Kelly Clarkson hosted the award show, while influencers such as Addison Rae, and stars like Cher, presented individual awards. The show featured performances by BTS, Post Malone, Pentatonix, and Doja Cat.

Post Malone was the big winner at the award show, winning nine awards in total, including artist of the year. Khalid, the second biggest winner, took home five awards, including every award for R&B. Billie Eilish won the Billboard top 200 album for When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? The K-pop sensations, BTS, won the fan-voted top social artist award for their fourth consecutive year. Kanye West won for both top gospel album and top Christian album for his album Jesus is King and swept all three awards in the gospel field. Panic! at the Disco won top rock song for the second consecutive year, this time for their hit “Hey Look Ma, I Made It.”

Harry Styles won the Billboard Chart Achievement award. His top-charting singles, “Watermelon Sugar,” “Adore You,” and “Lights Up,” have made huge impacts on the Billboard Charts. This fan-voted award is to honor nominees making music that consistently top charts and sales. This year, Styles has done just that. His album Fine Line included many hit singles and made it to #1 on the charts. This year, however, Styles was unable to attend the award show. His award presenter, Addison Rae, ended up infuriating the public by accepting the award for him. While presenting the award, she forgot to open the envelope while reading the prompter, causing many jokes to be made following the show.
