Elsie Fest is back again for its third year. This year, Elvis Duran of Z100, is hosting the renowned event in New York City’s SummerStage in Central Park. Headliners for the huge event on October 8 include Alan Cummings, and former Glee stars, Lea Michele and Darren Criss, among many other artists.
What exactly is Elsie Fest? Founded by Darren Criss, Ricky Rollins, and Jordan Roth, Elsie Fest is the place where all musical theater fans come together for the night to celebrate. According to an interview by Michael Gioia, Criss states “This is when I go to theatre and, This is when I go to a rock festival, [but] they are the same in my mind. I enjoy them the same way, and I just thought, Why don’t I put these together?” In fact, it is the first outdoor music festival in the Big Apple to celebrate the greatest hits from your favorite musicals. Since it was first introduced in 2014, almost all that attended have had nothing but positive reviews.
Additionally, Elsie Fest is partnering with Broadway
Cares/Equity Fight Aids this year, and they are donating a good amount of the proceeds to this great cause. This organization works worldwide to do many things, such as make sure people’s healthcare needs are met, and provide food or financial services, but most importantly, they play a major role in helping those with HIV/AIDS. Since they began in 1988, they have raised more than 285 million dollars for the cause.
Elsie Fest is a great way to close out the weekend with your family and friends, under the stars in the city that never sleeps.
