Isabella “Issa” Somera has been a valued member of the IHA community who will be greatly missed! Since the day she took her first steps in the halls, she has walked toward making a difference here at the Heart. Whether it was in her classes, service or extra activities, Isabella has demonstrated a hard-working, positive attitude towards everything she has taken part in. Isabella says she decided her junior year to “be bold and try new things” and that decision made her the woman she is today, a strong, outgoing and independent person who is open to almost anything you throw at her.
Issa has been an asset to the IHA community since the day she became a member. She has been part of many clubs and leadership positions that make her a student everyone at IHA is sad to see leave! She is not only an amazing student but is also a woman of faith, service, and charity. She is extremely dedicated to both her academic life and her religious life. Mrs. Cali, who had Issa as a junior, says, “She is a fine example of what is meant to be a Christian woman. Her faith is evident to all those she meets. Issa is a young lady of fine character and morals.” Issa is also the music chair on Campus Ministry Core Team and has recently received a special service award for having the most hours served by any IHA girl in the 2016-2017 school year. Her faith is an important aspect of her life, as she dedicates most of her time to her youth group and plays piano for them at events throughout the year. Isabella is also a strong, independent leader. She is the vice president of the Spanish Honor Society and is a service coordinator for the National Honor Society. The work she has done in her leadership positions will always be appreciated and treasured among those that she worked with.
Issa says she will most likely miss the “sisterly community” that is a central part of IHA, along with Chef Andrew’s cooking! She says her graduating class has also had a large impact on her life as an IHA girl, “I will miss the Class of 2017 as well!”. Issa feels that some of her proudest moments at IHA were earning her leadership positions and becoming a different person compared to the underclassman she once was. She says she previously was “never really active with participating in activities at school”. Since then, she has come out of her shell and became the woman we all know today and love to see walking around the hallways with a smile and cheerful attitude. Her favorite memory would have to be her senior prom. High school is the time to treasure each experience and make the most of every chance you are given and we are so happy Issa has been able to take all the opportunities presented to her and make the most of them no matter what they may have been. She, of course, has made everyone very proud.
Isabella will be attending Seton Hall University in the fall, majoring in biology on a pre-med track. Isabella, we are so proud of everything you have accomplished throughout your IHA career and cannot wait to see what other fantastic adventures you embark on. Keep working hard with a smile on your face and faith in your heart and you will go far. We will miss you very much and always know you have a home at the Heart!
