On October 12, 2016 IHA had the yearly celebration of Big Sister Little Sister Day. This is when juniors get to become big sisters to freshmen who need some guidance through the hallways of IHA, and when sophomores get to reunite with their senior big sisters.

Freshmen got the surprise of coming in with their lockers decorated in pink wrapping paper and “It’s A Girl!” signs lining the hallway. Seniors got to come into school seeing that their little sisters decorated their lockers to show how much they care about their big sisters.

During the activity period seniors went to pick up their little sisters and brought them down to the gym to get to know them, exchange gifts and eat some cupcakes! “As a junior, getting to be a big sister is a rewarding privilege,” said Emily Hernandez’18. Juniors feel honored, and being able to be a role model to younger students allows them to feel that they can truly be a part of a freshmen’s high school experience and make it that much better. While the new pairs of sisters were getting to have some fun, seniors and sophomore sisters were getting to spend some more quality time together.

Seniors went and picked up their little sisters and headed down to the cafeteria in excitement not only to find out what their sister got them as a gift but also getting to be part of their sister’s school year yet again. “I know my big sister well so it was nice to be able to do something special for her especially after she did something so nice for me last year.” said Kaityln Brown’19. They got to have some frozen yogurt and spend the time with their sister and their friends. They were having fun, laughing and making memories that they will remember for a lifetime.

Big Sister Little Sister Day shows how much of a sisterhood there is at IHA. Sisters are meant to guide you and be with you when you need them most and that is what Big Sister Little Sister day is all about. Then when you become a big sister it is her job to show her little the ropes and be the true big sister she may need. Emily Hernandez’18 also said, “As juniors, being older and having more responsibility, it is now up to us to be the example that our little sisters model after. Having a little sister is a fulfilling experience and I’m glad I finally get to share in it.” This day is exciting for all grade levels and it is a day when we come together to share in the community of sisterhood and love that every student is gladly apart of.
