In 2006 Disney aired a legendary movie, High School Musical. Then in the following years they aired sequels High School Musical 2 and High School Musical 3: Senior Year. Since the last movies aired and thousands of young children’s hearts shattered at the thought of never seeing the romance between Troy and Gabriella again, the public has been begging for a High School Musical 4.
Disney just recently announced that they are in the process of casting for the new original movie. Long time fans of the franchise got their wish, but not in the way they had hoped. Instead of bringing back the old cast and making them the stars, there will be all new actors and actresses trying to fill the shoes of the old generation at East High.
According to US Weekly it is not certain if original stars will be returning. Katalina deLeon ’19 said “I hope they do not ruin the storyline. The movie was perfect the way it was and a big part of my childhood. The original cast not returning makes me nervous.”
Director Kenny Ortega will not be returning as director of the new film, instead Mr. Jeffery Hornaday, director of the newer Disney channel original movies Teen Beach Movie and Teen Beach Movie 2, will be directing and choreographing the new movies of the series. “This worries me,” said Katalina “I just hope they stay true the original movies, that would be my biggest fear.”
President of Disney Channel, Gary Marsh, said that the movie franchise represented for “all the channel stands for” and that they are “excited to announce ‘the start of something new’ in the fourth movie.”
The movies inspired so many people to do what they love and the hope for High School Musical 4 is the same, to inspire and encourage being yourself and following your dreams.
