Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez were both stars from a young age, acting together on the popular kids’ television show Barney and Friends. Several years after, Lovato and Gomez signed to Disney Channel. Not only were they both stars at a young age, they both have overcome obstacles as well.
Selena Gomez’s mother, Mandy Teefey, was only sixteen years old when Gomez was born. “I am surprised to hear [that] and have a lot of respect for Selena and her mother.” explains Riley Kamm ‘19.
Her father, Ricardo Joel Gomez, was not very present in her life, and when he was, he took advantage of Selena by using her as bait for women.
As for Lovato, she overcame bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and addictions. She has grown up to be an inspiration to teens struggling mental disorders, eating disorders, or even struggling in general. If she had not overcome her obstacles, where would she be and how successful would she be now?
“She has really overcome challenges in her life.” Kamm states.
While growing up, Gomez and Lovato formed a friendship from the get go on Barney & Friends, and through thick and through thin they have managed to maintain a friendship. They have also both released new albums last autumn: Revival, by Gomez, and Confident, by Lovato.
The two girls have accomplished a lot through their lifetime. “They have made their families proud,” concludes Cassidy Tucker ’19.
