The Dress, which started as any other Internet sensation, is now being used to raise awareness for domestic violence.
Recently the company that made the black and blue dress, made a white and gold version. The Salvation Army is using this new version for their Domestic Violence Campaign.

The new white and gold version of the original blue and black dress is now being used to raise awareness for domestic abuse.

In the ad campaign, there is a woman wearing the white and gold dress with her body covered in black and blue bruises.
This dress was used because of the different opinions in regards to the color of it. Because of the color controversy, the advertisement reads, “Why is it so hard to see blue and black.”
Another advertisement, answers the question from the first one with the line, “Because they cover it with white and gold.”
The purpose of the advertisements is to raise awareness about domestic violence. In the first ad the small words say, “one in six women are victims of abuse. That’s no illusion.” The second ad informs us that most women don’t report that they’ve been abused.

The Salvation Army followed up with this advertisement to show that most women never report their abuse.

We would never know they have been abused because they cover their bruises with “white and gold” makeup.
Some people took to Twitter to respond to the ads. “Wow. Turned that one around. Powerful re-use of social media,” one user tweeted.
While the dress was a two-day craze, the ads turned it into something important. Being that the ads appeal to people of all ages, the Salvation Army’s advertisements have gotten many views.
