Melissa McCarthy has worked with Feig for The Heat and her upcoming movie Spy. Kristen Wiig, a Saturday Night Live aluma, has also worked with him for the smash hit Bridesmaids in 2011. Kate McKinnon is a current cast member on Saturday Night Live along with Leslie Jones, who recently became a cast member after being a stand-up comedienne and a writer for a few years.

The reboot is going to have some elements of the original, but will not be too similar. In a recent interview, Paul Feig said, “I love the first one so much I don’t want to do anything to ruin the memory of that. So it just felt like, let’s just restart it because then we can have new dynamics.”

The movie will likely begin shooting in the summer and will be released July 22, 2016.
