Paul Feig, director of comedic hits such as, The Heat and Bridesmaids, took to Twitter to announce who will star in the remake of the classic comedy, which starred Bill Murray. Those headlining the project are Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones.
Melissa McCarthy has worked with Feig for The Heat and her upcoming movie Spy. Kristen Wiig, a Saturday Night Live aluma, has also worked with him for the smash hit Bridesmaids in 2011. Kate McKinnon is a current cast member on Saturday Night Live along with Leslie Jones, who recently became a cast member after being a stand-up comedienne and a writer for a few years.
The reboot is going to have some elements of the original, but will not be too similar. In a recent interview, Paul Feig said, “I love the first one so much I don’t want to do anything to ruin the memory of that. So it just felt like, let’s just restart it because then we can have new dynamics.”
The movie will likely begin shooting in the summer and will be released July 22, 2016.
