Brendan was attending an indoor soccer practice when he went to retrieve a ball that had rolled to where a fold-down table and two benches were being kept. It is currently unclear as to how one of the benches came loose and fell, striking Brendan on the side of the head causing him to collapse.

Brendan’s soccer coach, who is also a New Milford Police Officer, immediately began CPR until emergency vehicles arrived. Paramedics transferred Brendan to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he later passed away.

The whole town is feeling the effects of this tragedy, with Mayor Ann Subrizi saying, “At this point I feel a lot less like the mayor than I do the mother.”

Superintendent Michael Polizzi, who told the Record that the benches were in good condition and normally kept in place by a key, has not returned requests for comment by NJ Advanced Media.
