Police arrested Dustin Diamond, also known as the character “Screech” in the hit television show, Saved by the Bell, on Friday December 26th. Diamond was charged due to a stabbing incident at a bar in Port Washington, Wisconsin.
Diamond was further charged with three misdemeanors related to this incident: second-degree recklessly endangering safety, carrying a concealed weapon, and disorderly conduct.
The stabbing reportedly took place the evening of Thursday, December 25th in response to an argument in the Grand Avenue Saloon.
Diamond and his girlfriend, Amanda Schutz, were present at the bar. During this time, a group of intoxicated individuals showed up and began acting in a rude manner. Diamond said he believed “there was going to be a brawl.”
Diamond stated that he turned to close the account, and when he turned back around, he saw his girlfriend bleeding while two men were grabbing her hair. As he tried to move closer to his girlfriend, a man held him back.Diamond said he might have stabbed the man with a pen used to sign a credit card receipt. However, it was later proved that he was armed with a knife.
Diamond and Schutz left, but were stopped along the way by the police. Police stated that they found a “stiletto-folding knife with a 3.75-inch blade, which uses a thumb stud and assisted opening mechanism.” Police said the tip of the knife was moist.
The victim later stated that he did not believe there was a knife involved and that he didn’t even feel being cut. Police reported that the wound was not fatal.
Schutz was charged with disorderly conduct and released. Dustin Diamond has been released after spending a weekend behind bars. He claimed that it was just self-defense.
