Tony Hawk meets Tony Stark when the skateboarding legend rides the world’s first real hoverboard.
The company Hendo created the hoverboard that can be preordered for $10,000 each. The hoverboard works on conductive surfaces such as copper or aluminum.
The hoverboard and the copper or aluminum surface create opposing fields, which allow the board to hover about one inch off the ground. The Hendo Hoverboard also has a battery life of about seven minutes, giving Tony Hawk just enough time to test it out on the copper skate ramp.

Hendo also started the Kickstarter campaign–a place for people to donate any pledge as small as $1.00 to the goal of perfecting the hoverboard and then producing the boards and creating places to ride them.
The campaign, which had an original goal of $250,000, has already collected $483,000 with almost 3,000 people backing the campaign. The Kickstarter campaign will continue until December 15.
The campaign also has a way to offer the hoverboard technology to everyone in a more accessible form called Whitebox Developer Kit.
The Whitebox Developer Kit has a 10-15 minute battery life and a 1-2 hour charging time. Whitebox hovers ¼ to ½ an inch and can even be taken apart so it can be observed and experimented with. There is also The Whitebox+ that can be operated using an iPhone or Android for a battery life of 12-15 minutes.
The Hendo Hoverboard could be the way of the future, and Tony Hawk said it best: “This is the real hoverboard right here, so forget everything you know.”
