From the first serve of summer practices, it was evident that the IHA tennis team would bring great success for this year’s fall season.
On August 11th, nerves were racking up as all the girls gathered for this year’s fall tennis tryouts. Many girls returned to try out and others were “newbies.” The first week of tryouts consisted of tough conditioning drills, challenge matches, and tennis drills, which were fairly familiar to the most of the girls.

Alexandra Piegza (right) are known as this year’s dynamic duo for doubles.
Shortly after the first week of tryouts, varsity and junior varsity squads were determined, but the tennis journey didn’t stop there. The following weeks consisted of nerve-racking matches to deter main lineups, which were finally put together only a week ago.
The players on the varsity and junior varsity teams are expected to show up to practices every day and play in all matches throughout the season. The varsity team is made up of twelve players—five seniors, three juniors, two sophomores, and two freshmen.
So far the tennis season has been going well. The varsity team has an incredible standing and IHA varsity tennis coach, Steven Park, is very proud with the outcome of the matches and practices that take place.
“We have a great bunch of girls with many different talents that all contribute greatly to the team. I’m looking forward to seeing the outcome of this season and many seasons to come,” Park says.
