Walt Disney World’s Epcot has ‘let Maelstrom go’ to make room for a new Frozen ride.
After 26 years of serving World Showcase travelers well, Norway is bidding “farvel” to Maelstrom–the beloved Viking themed boat voyage that took vacationers on a journey through Norway’s culture and Viking history. October 5th is guests’ last chance to enjoy the ride, and after that, renovations will begin.
A new attraction based off the animated hit Frozen, which made almost $1.3 billion in the box office last winter, will take Maelstrom’s place. The new attraction that is expected to open in early 2016 will bring Disney guests through Norway-inspired Arendelle and “immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film,” says Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney World Parks and Resort.
Staggs further explains that “these Frozen elements are great compliments to the Norway pavilion, which showcases the country and region that inspired the film.”
While many are upset about the closing of the memorable Maelstrom, most Frozen fans are excited to be able to experience this extremely popular movie in a whole new way.
