American FBI agent Joel Cox was arrested on Monday in Pakistan while attempting to board a domestic flight to Islamabad from Karachi. He was in possession of 15 9mm bullets, three tiny knives, and a wrench when he was taken into custody.
Cox was in Pakistan on assignment to provide training to the area’s local police, carrying the weapons because employees for the FBI and other U.S agencies are allowed to carry weapons in Pakistan when authorized.
U.S. diplomats are working with Pakistani authorities to release Cox after he appeared in court on Tuesday and will be returning to the courtroom on Saturday. Pakistani citizen Rao Anwar said that Cox was, “upholding Pakistan’s dignity and honor. He acted illegally and his arrest is perfectly legal.”
